Soong Type Android Face Morph for Michael 4

Soong Type Android Face Morph is a freebie character from the artist Jeremy Vilmur.  This is available from Share CG.  He has been made in the likeness of a famous Sci-Fi android!  Please read on to learn more.

Materials

This character only includes a face morph which is always disappointing.  As you can see from the promo image, the texture is a rather plain white that can easily be achieved by tweaking a few material settings in Daz Studio. They iris can also easily textured in the plain yellow.  Here is a quick quide for less experienced Daz Studio users:

First head over to the surfaces tab.  Select all of the characters surfaces by clicking on michael 4 in the editor pane. Next click on the drop down arrow pictured above in the Diffuse Color box, and change it to none.  Your M4 figure should now turn white.  You can experiment with tweaking a few more settings under the surfaces tab if you wish to do so.  We would recommend changing Lighting Model to “Skin”.  We would also recommend turning the Diffuse Strength down to around 50%.  Change the Viewport shader to Nvidia Iray to see the results!  Let’s now adjust the iris and pupil.

Again in the surfaces tab click on the drop down arrow next to michael 4 as pictured above.  Now select 5_Iris.  You can now adjust the Iris to any color you like. by changing the value in the Diffuse Color box.  Do the same to adjust the pupil to a more suitable black and you are all done!  Check out our Daz Tutorial section to learn more skills.

Shaping

The zip file only includes one pose file (.pz2) for the face.  This requires Michael 4 shapes++ (morphs++) to work.  The likeness to popular Sci-Fi androids is very good and instantly recognisable to audiences.  The face sculpting works well with the M4 expression sliders as long as they aren’t too exagerrated.  We have used a mixture of “EyesOpen, Happy and MouthSmileOpen/Simple” to achieve the expression above.

What can this model be used for

Comparison to Similar Characters

We did not find any other competitors similar to the Soong Type Android Face Morph created for Daz Studio.  We did however find newer versions of this character in FBX and OBJ format from turbosquid and a few other sites.  These characters were much newer and of higher quality.  However Soong Type Android still has good value as a free character that’s ready to go in your Daz parody art.

Soong Type Android Face Morph- Overall

As a free character this is a great addition to you library. It’s also the only character of this likeness that is designed specifically for Daz Studio.  However the lack of textures, additional features and the older age of this character is something to consider. Additionally, there are newer characters made for 3D printing that could be converted over to use in other 3D apps.
