Miley HD for Genesis 8 and 8.1 Female is a HD character created by the artist Mousso.  We have reviewed a number of their characters on our site (see below) and the overall quality of their work is very good.  They have created some very famous characters and currently have around 144 characters for sale in the  Daz3D store.  Miley HD features highly detailed shaping and technically impressive materials such as fine peach fuzz hair for close up renders.  Please read on as we give an in depth review of this character.

Materials

This character includes many features that go beyond the standarad packages users are accustomed to seeing with Daz Studio characters.  Let’s break these down below and share our first hand experiences with you.

PBR and UBER shader presets

If you aren’t very technical when it comes to shaders in Daz Studio, don’t worry!  We will explain all.  This character includes a PBR (Physically Based Rendering) shader preset. Shaders determine the way a surface will look once rendered in a 3d program. Newer shaders are designed to add more photorealism to your renders.  PBR skin shaders were introduced with the Genesis 8.1 generation and include some different settings to the Uber shader (the standard shader).

The PBR shader presets  with Miley set up a bunch of settings to your scene with one click.  They also include options with and without eyebrows.  We tested the shader in a range of different lighting conditions and found the results to be subtle between the two shaders.  The PBR shader tends to add more definition in regions that would just look hazy with the UBER shader.  For example around the nose or in skin folds.  This might be noticeable in the example image below.

Peach Fuzz Hair

For those users who are interested in photorealistic digital art,  this addition adds another layer of realism.   The peach fuzz hair is very subtle but you can definately see the difference in close up and portrait shots.  Lighting plays a large part in how the final image renders, but we found this to be a very welcome additional feature!  For digital artists that require it, there is also anatomical hair included.

Fibermesh Brows

Fibermesh brows are really essential to achieve a characters signature look.  Mileys brows frame her iconic look. Despite the fibermesh brows being made of individual strands, we found that they rendered very fast.  This is likely due to the fact that they do not need to use a transparency map so there is less data to calculate when rendering.

 

Make up options

There are a generous set of 8 makeup options included with and without eyebrows options.  Also 8 lipstick colors, 7 eye colors, an eyelash option and 6 nail colors.  As you would expect of any 3d model created this decade, their are of course a decent set of normal maps as well as transparency and specular roughness to help add realism to surfaces.

LIE Blush

Miley HD includes an attractive L.I.E (Layered Image Editor) Blush.  For those digital artists that are new to daz, an L.I.E is a texture that gets applied over the surface of another.  We love that Mousso inlcuded  this option as it really helps to achieve the characters likeness and breathe life to still renders.

SSS Options

SSS stands for Subsurface Scattering.  This feature attemps to simulate the effect of light hitting Mileys skin and being absorbed and scattered within the various layers. We were impressed with the subtle depth that the SSS maps added to the character.  Lighting of course had a big influence on this in test renders.

Shaping

Miley HD is a custom-sculpted character for Genesis 8 Female and Genesis 8.1 Female.  We are given all the shaping options for both base models.  To help bring her to life we are also given 6 sculpted expressions.  These are excellent and we would advise using these over the default Daz Studio expression morphs to preserve the characters celebrity likeness.

What can this model be used for

Given the likeness of Miley HD to famous supermodels, we would highly recommend this character for digital artists interested in the Fashion and Modelling genres.  She can be used in a variety of genres such as book covers and advertising.  With the correct lighting and shaders, users can achieve a high level of photorealism, opening up many options for usage.

For animators and video game developers, this character includes an interactive licence which allows for it to be imported into unity or unreal engine.  This licence is currently heavily discounted at Daz3D, so we advice susers to opt for the extra fee while it is low.

Comparison to Similar Characters

We currently have not seen another character that bears a similar likeness to Miley HD.  Without any close competitors she should be compared with other high end Genesis 8 and 8.1 female characters.  In this regard, this character has the advantage of including a variety of extra features as detailed above.  The peach fuzz hair and high quality sculpting really sets Moussos characters apart from a lot of other Daz3D characters.
