Bend Control for Genesis 8 Female(s) – Natural Looking Leg and Hip Bends

Hi, This is Gary Tonge. I’m a freelance animator and 3d generalist from the UK with over 10 years commercial experience in film, games and VR. Here on Pixelsizzle I share my knowledge of animation related software, tips & tricks along with some fun personal projects. Let’s start by taking a look at Bend Control for Genesis 8 Female(s). It provides an easy way to get much more natural and attractive hip and leg bending for Genesis 8 females.

This is a tool that I bought originally for myself to use in my own work. It’s less about clever maths and more about making the most out of one of just a few bend controllers available in Daz Studio 4 Pro. If you want to be able to adjust your character into the position you need quickly but don’t want to be modding morphs all day long then this is the tool for you.

The biggest problem with most bend controllers in Daz Studio 4 Pro is that they are way too strong. They can end up looking ridiculous when your figure gets close to a 90 degree bend at the hip or knee (for example). This means it takes forever if not physically impossible to dial in the correct bend you’re looking for. The other issue is that there’s only one master controller (MC). This means that if you need a character to pose with more subtle hip / knee bends it can be very annoying. Often she’ll end up looking like the michelin tyre man!

Bend Control for Genesis 8 Female(s) to the Rescue!

Bend Control fixes these problems very nicely. It gives you fine control over how much bend is being applied. This is done with easy to use Leg and Hip bend controls. It also lets you add in additional bend to either leg independently of one another – meaning that subtle poses are possible without her looking like she’s about to fall over!

It’s simple to use and can be adjusted for any character shape.

The most obvious difference is that her knees bend much more naturally when walking up slopes or stairs. This puts paid to that ridiculous ‘I’m walking on ice’ style walk you sometimes get with Daz Studio 4 Pro.

There are some examples of characters I’ve used Bend Control on in the Pixelsizzle Gallery. Most of these 3D renders were exported to numerous 2D artworks for my portfolio.

This tool has really helped me whilst posing characters with very deformed legs (very skinny or fat legs). The deformations always look unrealistic when viewed from certain angles. Normally the only way around this problem is to keep your figure more realistically proportioned with not too much hip or leg deformation happening. But with Bend Control it doesn’t matter! I can adjust almost any leg shape to look natural.

Bend Control for Genesis 8 Female(s) is compatible with all existing character shapes and will be updated to support new ones as needed.
